Blog #1: Senior Project Topic

Q:What is your topic?
A:My topic is on pediatrics.

Q:Why?
A: My main choice was actually going to be pediatric oncology but I've decided to start out a little more broad and then maneuver my way into oncology throughout the year. I've known that I wanted to pursue this field for quite a while now and I figured doing it as my senior project would be appropriate because it will determine if I truly do want to study it in college. I found other benefits as well such as service learning with a pediatrician and volunteering at a hospital which are two things I'm really excited to start doing. As far as just choosing this topic in general, I don't really have an answer for that. I just knew the second I heard we needed to choose topics that this was going to be mine.

Q:What do you hope to accomplish after studying this topic all year?
A: Who really inspired me my junior year was Emily Almeida and how her product was that she actually got a place on the softball team she had been shadowing all year. Since my physician won't give me a lab coat and med degree after my year of shadowing, I'm leaning more towards the hope that I will be recommended to a medical school once I'm done with college(granted that I keep in contact). I'm also hoping that I can be given an internship at a private practice once I'm in college. Besides service learning, I want to be able to fully understand what it is like to be a pediatrician and what the common medical terminology means.
